Interventional Gastroenterology (GI)
Mount Sinai South Nassau Center for Digestive Health at Bellmore provides comprehensive diagnostics and treatment for a range of digestive diseases and conditions, in a safe, convenient location. Patients no longer have to visit the city for the treatment of their complicated pancreas and biliary problems, or endoscopic management of complex Interventional Gastroenterology (GI) disorders.
What is Endoscopy?
An Upper GI Endoscopy.
An endoscope is a small, flexible tube that can be used to diagnose and treat numerous gastrointestinal concerns. With endoscopy, doctors can diagnose conditions, clear blockages, remove cysts or stones, or remove tumors without invasive surgery. This results in less discomfort and a shorter recovery time for the patient. Endoscopic procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis, making them convenient for patients.
Conditions We Diagnose and Treat:

Offering the Latest Technology
Our center offers advanced procedures and uses the latest technology to diagnose and treat digestive diseases and conditions. Some of the advanced technologies we offer are:
- The Spyglass Visualization system, which allows our physicians to view the pancreas and bile ducts with a precision never achieved before—providing more reliable diagnosis and minimally invasive treatment.

- Endoscopic Suturing, which allows us to suture Gastrointestinal structures internally and approximate tissue without making any external cuts or incisions.

- Endoscopic Internal Bypass, which allows us to bypass obstructed Gastrointestinal tract segments due to cancer, without making external cuts or incisions.
- Endoscopic Gallbladder Drainage, which treats acute and chronic cholecystitis in patients who are not surgical candidates, without making external cuts or incisions.
- The Confocal Laser Endomicroscope, which provides enhanced images of the digestive tract to detect and treat Gastrointestinal cancers at their earliest stages.
- Radiofrequency Ablation, a technique that uses thermal energy to destroy cancerous and precancerous tissue, and is an effective treatment for Barrett’s Esophagus, bile duct tumors, pancreatic cysts, and radiation proctitis.
- Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) and Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR), which represent major advances in treating Barrett’s Esophagus and early Gastrointestinal cancers. Endoscopists inject fluid to elevate the lesion, then cut away the surrounding tissues to remove it.
- Cryotherapy, or tissue-freezing, a procedure that addresses a variety of lesions in the digestive tract.

- DNA analysis of tissue samples (Fluorescent In Situ Hybridization, or FISH) which helps to evaluate strictures,or abnormal narrowing, of the bile duct.
- Stretta and Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF) for treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
