South Nassau Communities Hospital

Mount Sinai South Nassau

Established in 1928, our hospital is one of the region's largest hospitals, with 455 beds, more than 900 physicians, and over 3,000 employees. We have nearly 23,000 admissions per year.

We are Nassau County's only South Shore hospital offering 24-hour, life-saving emergency angioplasty. We are a Level II Trauma Center, with over 60,000 ER visits yearly. We installed the first Gamma Knife® on Long Island, allowing for non-invasive treatment of otherwise inaccessible or inoperable brain tumors. We are also one of the first South Shore hospitals to offer daVinci® robotic surgery. Other specialized services that we offer include a Center for Cardiovascular Health, a Infusion Center, a Center for Women’s Imaging, a Center for Prostate Health, a Wound Care Center, Geriatric and Palliative Care, Hemodialysis, and much more.

Mount Sinai South Nassau is a Gold Plus Stroke Center for Long Island, an Infectious Diseases Society of America Antimicrobial Stewardship Center of Excellence (one of only 18 in the U.S.), and a Joint Commission Recognized Center of Excellence for Heart Failure and Dialysis. Our nursing program has achieved Magnet Recognition from the American Nurses Association.

We are continually expanding our services and our campus. Although our hospital is large, we retain the cozy atmosphere of a big family in a small community hospital. As a resident, you will enjoy the benefits of this intimate and collegial environment while gaining exposure to cutting edge medicine.

Our program’s Continuity Clinic center is located on the barrier island of Long Beach. The center was remodeled in 2016. It houses a reception area, nursing station, four examination rooms, a procedure room, residents' work area, precepting areas, administrative offices, a business office and a conference room.

The examination rooms are designed to enhance patient education and comfort, including one that has videotaping capabilities used for teaching purposes.

Additional outpatient training is provided through our affiliate, Mount Sinai Doctors Five Towns, a multispecialty group practice located in the nearby town of Hewlett. This practice provides convenient access to the specialists and services that the Mount Sinai network has to offer. Training experiences available to residents include a variety of specialties such as endocrinology, neurology, adolescent medicine, and pulmonary medicine. Radiology services are available on site.

In addition, a team from Mount Sinai’s Recanati/Miller Transplantation Institute visits regularly to care for patients with liver, kidney, pancreas, and intestinal conditions that may require transplant.
