A Message from the Program Director: Welcome to Mount Sinai South Nassau Anesthesiology

Welcome! It’s with immense pride and excitement that I introduce you to the new ACGME accredited Categorical Anesthesiology Residency Program at Mount Sinai South Nassau (MSSN), right here in Oceanside, Long Island.

This is more than just another residency program; it is an opportunity to train in a dynamic, growing community hospital that is rapidly expanding its surgical and procedural complexity while benefiting from the unparalleled academic resources and standards of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Our Vision: Training the Modern Perioperative Physician

The role of an anesthesiologist is rapidly evolving. We are no longer confined to the operating room; we are perioperative physicians, intensivists, pain specialists, and leaders in patient safety. Our curriculum is built to reflect this reality:

  • Clinical Breadth: You will be exposed to a rich mix of community-based "bread-and-butter" cases alongside the high-acuity, complex cardiac, neurologic, oncologic, thoracic, and trauma procedures that are expanding at MSSN. This varied experience will ensure you graduate as a truly well-rounded and confident practitioner.
  • Academic Excellence: As an affiliate of the Icahn School of Medicine, our residents benefit from a structured didactic curriculum, simulation-based training, and a culture that emphasizes research and scholarly activity, all designed to prepare you for success on the ABA BASIC and ADVANCED examinations.
  • The MSSN Advantage: Our program provides a close-knit, supportive environment often unique to a community-based hospital, allowing for strong, personalized mentorship from dedicated faculty who know you by name, not by number. This collegiality, combined with Mount Sinai's cutting-edge infrastructure, provides the ideal platform for your development.

Life on Long Island

Training at MSSN means a fantastic quality of life. We offer the ideal balance: a suburban environment with a strong community feel, excellent local amenities, and proximity to the region’s best beaches, while the cultural and professional opportunities of New York City are just a short train ride away. We believe that resident wellness is paramount, and our location offers the perfect setting to thrive both professionally and personally.

We are actively seeking motivated, empathetic, and intellectually curious individuals who are eager to help us establish a new standard of excellence in anesthesiology training on Long Island.
We look forward to reviewing your application and welcoming you to the Mount Sinai South Nassau family.

Sincerely,
Alan J. Sim, MD, MSc, FASA
