Mount Sinai South Nassau Music Therapy program
The Mount Sinai South Nassau Music Therapy program will serve pediatric patients ages 0-17 who are hospitalized due to trauma, acute illness, surgery, or medical emergencies. Through Music Therapy services, patients experiencing conditions such as asthmas, infections, seizures, injuries, and hyperbilirubinemia will receive supportive care to enhance coping and emotional well-being.
We will provide Music Therapy services regardless of a patient's ability to pay. Our primary beneficiaries are our pediatric patients experiencing anxiety, depression, difficulty coping with hospitalization, and medical procedures. These services are especially critical for children undergoing stressful or painful treatments. The Music Therapist will also support NICU patients, including medically fragile and premature infants, through developmentally appropriate interventions.
Music Therapy plays a vital role in supporting both patients and families during hospitalization. It promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and fosters meaningful connections between patients, caregivers, and healthcare staff. Through guided musical experiences, patients are given opportunities for emotional expression, autonomy, and a sense of control in an unfamiliar environment. These outcomes strengthen coping skills, enhance emotional well-being, and contribute to a more positive healing experience.
