Dear Applicants,

Surgical simulations are now an integral part of general surgery training. At Mount Sinai South Nassau, we offer a comprehensive simulation experience in both wet and dry labs.

Our simulation center provides an excellent opportunity to perfect bedside procedure skills, such as suturing, central line placement, and chest tube insertion, as well as the required Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) and Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery (FES) skills, all in a quiet and safe environment. The simulation center is accessible 24 hours a day to our residents. Additionally, surgery residents now have access to SimNow, the latest Intuitive robotic simulation program.

Through our long-standing collaboration, we also have access to the cutting-edge simulation center of the general surgery residency program at Mount Sinai Hosptial in Manhattan.

Furthermore, human cadavers are available to residents for open major and minor procedures in both general surgery and subspecialties. We provide specialty-specific simulations using different parts of cadavers throughout the year, with various specialty surgical attendings, including those in hepatobiliary, colorectal, thoracic, head and neck, vascular, and trauma surgery. This relaxed environment has been particularly exciting and rewarding for our residents.

Lastly, we collaborate with the GME office at Mount Sinai Health System, allowing residents to attend various simulation and education programs, as well as surgical simulation programs offered by general surgery residency program at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Our simulation program provides a relaxed and safe environment with cutting-edge technology, enabling residents to practice repeatedly until they achieve proficiency.
