Thriving Five Years After Advanced Ovarian Cancer, Mount Sinai South Nassau Made it Possible

NAME: Sarafina
CONDITION:
Ovarian Cancer

Meet Sarafina, Ovarian Cancer Survivor

In 2015, a doctor referred Sarafina, then 50, and a mother of two, to South Nassau’s Dr. Ann Buhl to evaluate her left-sided pelvic pain. Dr. Buhl, director of Mount Sinai South Nassau’s Gynecologic Oncology program, diagnosed Sarafina with stage 3 ovarian cancer. Five years after surgery and chemotherapy, Sarafina is living life to the fullest.

"Dr. Buhl has been my greatest cheerleader," Sarafina says. "She has played a major role in my well-being and healing."

If you have pelvic or abdominal pain, bloating, or urinary symptoms, such as having to go often, don’t hesitate to make an appointment with your doctor. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Buhl or any of South Nassau’s cancer experts, call 1-877-SOUTH-NASSAU (1-877-768-8462).

Mount Sinai South Nassau is accredited as a Comprehensive Community Hospital Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer (CoC).
