UJA-Federation of New York Recognizes Dr. Linda Efferen for Service to Community

In recognition of her dedication and service to improving the health of the communities, the UJA - Federation of New York’s division of South Shore Healthcare Professionals honored Linda Efferen, MD, chief medical officer at South Nassau Communities Hospital, at its annual dinner reception held May 14 at the Temple Beth El of Cedarhurst.

The world's largest local philanthropy, UJA - Federation of New York helps 1.4 million people in New York City, Westchester County and Long Island as well as 3 million people in Israel and 60 other countries around the world. The funds raised by the UJA - Federation sustain the activities of more than 100 health, human-service, educational and community agencies.

As South Nassau’s chief medical officer, Dr. Efferen (a resident of South Huntington) is responsible for facilitating medical staff interactions with hospital administration and the governing board and for assuring the effective and efficient delivery of quality medical care consistent with the hospital’s mission. She also assists with strategic planning and execution, as well as the implementation of disease management programs, and monitors the effectiveness of management practices and productivity indicators.

Named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s list of "130 Women Hospital and Healthcare Leaders to Know" in the United States, Dr. Efferen is board-certified in hospice and palliative medicine, critical care medicine, pulmonary medicine and internal medicine. She was named to Becker’s Hospital Review "List of 100 Chief Medical Officers to Know", Consumers Research Council of America’s Guide to America’s Top Physicians, Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors: New York Metro Area Guide (for seven years), and Best Doctors’ Best Doctors in America. She has received a host of awards/honors, including a spot in the 2010 class of Long Island Business News’ Long Island’s Top 50 Business Women. Clinical professor of medicine at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, Dr. Efferen is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the New York Academy of Science, American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Critical Care Physicians, American College of Medical Quality, American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
