Business Leader and Mount Sinai South Nassau Orthopedic Spine Surgeon Are Co-Honorees of 37th Annual Golf Outing

Parking Systems President Mark Baron and the Chief of Mount Sinai South Nassau’s Orthopedic Surgery Department, Stelios Koutsoumbelis, MD, have been named the co-honorees of the 37th Annual Mount Sinai South Nassau Golf Outing to be held Monday, May 17.

The socially distanced outing will adhere to all COVID-19-related safety precautions and will be held at three of Long Island’s most prestigious and challenging venues: The Seawane Club, Hewlett Harbor; Rockaway Hunting Club, Lawrence; and The Rockville Links Club, Rockville Centre. All net proceeds will benefit Mount Sinai South Nassau.

“Mount Sinai South Nassau is grateful for the generosity of community leaders and supporters like Mark Baron whose loyalty and commitment to the hospital have contributed so much to our growth and expansion,” said Mount Sinai South Nassau’s President and CEO, Richard J. Murphy.  “Dr. Koutsoumbelis has devoted his energy to providing patients with world-class, standard-setting health care service. We are pleased to honor his dedication to the hospital and to his patients and to the communities we serve.”

Golf outing co-chairs Anthony Cancellieri, Vice Chair of Mount Sinai South Nassau’s board of directors, and Jeffrey Greenfield, a member of Mount Sinai South Nassau’s Advisory Board and managing member, NGL Group, LLC, have been instrumental in helping to bring new golfers and sponsors to the annual outing. They lead a 42-member golf committee and help garner the support of dozens of local businesses through golf outing sponsorships. Last year’s annual outing brought in more than $401,100 with net total funds raised of $283,000.

“Mark and Dr. Koutsoumbelis are two tremendous honorees for this year’s Golf Outing,” said Mr. Cancellieri. “Their steadfast support and good works empower the hospital to fulfill its promise to provide every single patient with the quality, advanced, compassionate health care that they deserve from the moment they enter the hospital to the moment they are discharged home.”

Mr. Baron founded Parking Systems in 1971 and with the help of his experienced team of more than 1,000 parking professionals has developed it into one of the largest parking management companies in the tri-state region. Parking Systems is a full-service parking management company providing valet service, parking management, transportation service, facility maintenance, revenue control, and consulting. Parking Systems’ 300+ clients include health care facilities, retail centers, arenas/event venues, municipalities, parking garages, parking lots, and residential communities.

Dr. Koutsoumbelis specializes in the management of all spinal and scoliosis disorders. He has also received advanced spinal oncology training to treat spinal tumors. Under his leadership the hospital’s orthopedic surgery program has achieved Healthgrades® America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery™, Orthopedic Surgery Excellence Award™, and 5-star ratings for Total Knee Replacement, Total Hip Replacement, and Hip Fracture Treatment.

Dr. Koutsoumbelis is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, the North American Spine Society, the Scoliosis Research Society, and the International Society for the Advancement of Spinal Surgery.  Dr. Koutsoumbelis is the author of numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and has presented at multiple national spine meetings.

The Mount Sinai South Nassau golf outing is believed to be the largest hospital golf outing of its kind on Long Island. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the traditional barbeque that is usually held after the round of golf at Seawane instead will be held at each individual course in order to keep each gathering below the maximum 150-person limit. All golf carts will be wiped down before play and masks are required when not golfing or eating.

Sponsorships, journal ads and foursomes are still available although the courses are filling up fast since registration began several weeks ago. For more information about sponsorship packages or to register, call (516) 377-5360 or email lynne.nordone@snch.org.
