Mount Sinai South Nassau Opens Primary Care Walk-In Center on Long Beach Boardwalk

Expanding on its commitment to enhance medical services on the barrier island, Mount Sinai South Nassau has opened a walk-in primary care center on the Long Beach Boardwalk at the new oceanfront B2K residential development between Long Beach Boulevard and Riverside Boulevard.

The hospital’s primary care practice at 325 West Park Avenue, Long Beach, has also relocated to this new and modern space.

The walk-in, no-appointment-needed or by appointment full-service primary care practice began officially seeing patients on Monday, November 4. The site provides preventive and diagnostic services, including physicals, acute care for injuries and illnesses, management of chronic disease, and vaccinations and immunizations. The primary care office is in The Breeze complex, the new oceanfront rental and condominium complex that recently opened on the Boardwalk in an area once known as the Superblock.

“Serving the medical needs of Long Beach residents remains a key priority for Mount Sinai South Nassau and this new location reflects our continuing effort to keep our promise to the city and to our patients on the barrier island,” said Adhi Sharma, President of Mount Sinai South Nassau. “We remain committed to offering residents the services they need, from emergency care to cardiology to GI and other specialty services, and now a walk-in primary care center, close to home.”

This summer, the hospital’s Community Education Department began offering a rotating schedule of community health lectures, assessments, and preventive services, as well as screenings for blood pressure, body mass index, blood oxygen level, memory, and diabetes risk. It also hosted health education seminars for blood pressure monitoring, diabetes management, and mental health and wellness, and provided screening and education to more than 500 community members, directing some to much-needed specialty care. These services will continue seasonally.

Staff at the Primary Care Walk-In Center also will be able to seamlessly refer patients to Mount Sinai specialists on the barrier island, including at the Mount Sinai Doctors multispecialty center on the grounds of the former Long Beach Medical Center, as well as to the larger Mount Sinai Doctors network of medical experts across Long Island. Mount Sinai South Nassau clinical leaders have met with Long Beach first responders to ensure proper coordination of care. If needed, Mount Sinai South Nassau maintains a freestanding Emergency Department in Long Beach.

The new Center on the Boardwalk is staffed by Haran Ratna, MD, an internal medicine and primary care physician who previously practiced at 325 West Park Avenue, and Rima Patel, NP, in addition to medical assistants and other support personnel. The practice accepts most health insurance plans. The hours of operation are 9 am-5 pm, Monday-Thursday, and 8 am-4 pm, Fridays. Hours may be adjusted during the off-season. All patient medical records will be on the Mount Sinai Health System’s central electronic medical record system so that they can be accessed immediately if and when patients receive medical care and consultations at other Mount Sinai Doctors sites.

“Mount Sinai South Nassau is committed to identifying and advancing opportunities to provide health care services and programs that the community needs and deserves,” said Anthony Cancellieri, Chair of Mount Sinai South Nassau’s Advisory Board. “This practice is part of our ongoing effort to fulfill that commitment.”

"We are pleased Mount Sinai South Nassau is increasing barrier-island health care services at a location so convenient to both our residents and visitors alike," said Long Beach City Manager Daniel Creighton. "The location lends itself to facilitating further collaboration between Mount Sinai and our lifeguards and other first responders and should prove to be a valuable resource for them. Mount Sinai's continued investment into the health of our residents is greatly appreciated."

B2K Development principals Jan Burman, Steven Krieger, David Burman, and Jon Weiss stated, “This announcement reflects our commitment to the Long Beach community that our new Boardwalk and Breeze developments would include benefits to the public that would enhance the city’s quality of life. Mount Sinai’s new Primary Care Walk-In Center underscores this vision.”

Mount Sinai South Nassau has invested $47.6 million in the barrier island since Long Beach Medical Center closed after superstorm Sandy. The Primary Care Walk-In Center is complemented by Mount Sinai Doctors-Long Beach, a multispecialty medical arts pavilion at 440 East Bay Drive; Mount Sinai South Nassau’s Long Beach Emergency Department at 325 East Bay Drive, and Mount Sinai South Nassau-Long Beach, Primary Care at 761 Franklin Boulevard. Combined, they form an integrated, community-based network of medical services easily accessible to residents.

Mount Sinai Doctors-Long Beach on East Bay Drive offers an array of specialty medical services, including:

  • Cardiology and cardiology testing
  • Gastroenterology
  • Urology

The site features 15 comfortably furnished private patient examination rooms, four procedure rooms, an X-ray room, and eight rooms for procedure preparation and recovery, and its electronic health record system allows patients to easily access their health records, schedule appointments, renew medications, and obtain information about the care they receive from any Mount Sinai Doctors practice.

Mount Sinai South Nassau’s Freestanding Long Beach Emergency Department is the only 911- receiving, free-standing Emergency Department on Long Island and features an experienced staff of board certified emergency medicine physicians as well as registered nurses with advanced training in emergency medicine. It also features a trauma room and advanced medical imaging department that includes X-ray and a 64-slice CT scanner, the only operational CT scanner of any type on the barrier island. The 6,300-square-foot facility can surge to meet increases in volume, if needed.

The Primary Care practice on Franklin Boulevard offers a range of health care services from pediatrics through geriatric care. Depending on the location, patients can receive a variety of services, including obstetrical and gynecological care, social services, preventive medicine, and urgent health care.
