Long Beach Fire Chief and Long-time Facilities VP Named Honorees of Mount Sinai South Nassau’s 39th Annual Golf Outing

In recognition of his steady management of the hospital’s ongoing $400 million strategic capital expansion and dedication to its mission of serving patients on the South Shore, Mount Sinai South Nassau’s Vice President of Facilities, Planning and Development, Andrew Triolo, has been named honoree of the hospital’s 39th Annual Golf Outing on Monday, May 15.

Long Beach Fire Department Chief of Department Scott Kemins, a 40-plus-year civil servant, will receive the hospital’s Community Service Award for his longstanding commitment to serving residents of the barrier island.

Long Island’s largest annual hospital golf fundraiser of its kind, the outing will be held at three prestigious and challenging golf venues: The Seawane Club, Hewlett Harbor; Rockaway Hunting Club, Lawrence; and The Rockville Links Club, Rockville Centre. All net proceeds will benefit patients at Mount Sinai South Nassau and communities across the South Shore.

“Andy Triolo never stops working to improve our physical plant in Oceanside, Long Beach, and dozens of medical specialty practices where our patients are treated. He is tireless and dedicated and his work makes a real difference in improving the lives of our patients and workforce,” said Adhi Sharma, MD, President of Mount Sinai South Nassau.
 
“Scott Kemins is the very definition of a public servant,” Dr. Sharma added. “Whether as a former member of the NYPD, directing volunteer fire department efforts in Long Beach, or serving as a lifeguard, patrolling the beaches of the barrier island, Scott is always ready, always on duty, and always willing to step up and lead. His work as a first responder and as a community leader is an inspiration to us all.”

“Andy and Scott are cut from the same cloth,” said Golf Committee Co-Chair, Mike Sapraicone. “They are built to serve. And their service makes a measurable difference in the lives of our patients.”

“Andy has been an outstanding leader, especially during the last decade as we embarked on the most ambitious building program in the history of the hospital,” said Anthony Cancellieri, Co-Chair of the Mount Sinai South Nassau Board of Directors. “He has helped oversee the building of a new patient pavilion in Oceanside, the renovation and expansion of our Emergency Department, a new central utility plant, and new ambulatory sites in Long Beach and Wantagh, as well as dozens of other projects. He has kept all the balls in the air, and now we are seeing the fruit of his labors as these projects come online.”

“A builder, collaborator, and problem-solver, Andy is always available to lend a helping hand and has been essential to the growth of the hospital and the continuation of its excellence in the delivery of quality health care,” said Jeff Greenfield, Co-Chair of the Golf Committee and Managing Member of NGL Group, LLC. “And Scott is a first responder of the first order. He shows up whenever his community calls. We couldn’t have two better honorees.”

“It is a true honor to be recognized this way,” said Mr. Triolo. “But the credit goes to the incredible Design and Development team at Mount Sinai South Nassau as well as our Environmental Services and Security staffs. They make me look good every day and none of this happens without them.”

Mr. Kemins says he, too, is honored to be named an honoree, but the praise should be directed to the residents and servants of the City of Long Beach.

“I am very grateful to be recognized by the hospital, but I am the one who gives thanks every day for having had the opportunity to serve the residents of Long Beach along with my fellow firefighters and the city administration. The City by the Sea is my home. It has weathered some tough times, but it always bounces back and that’s because of the leadership of the city and the resilience of its citizens.”

Mr. Sapraicone and Mr. Greenfield lead a 42-member volunteer golf committee that has helped grow the number of golfers participating in the annual event while garnering the support of dozens of local businesses through golf outing sponsorships. Last year’s outing established a new record for the event, raising a gross of $639,954, with a net of $435,155. All the proceeds help the hospital expand and improve services for more than 900,000 residents along the South Shore.

Mr. Triolo, an architect by trade, joined Mount Sinai South Nassau in 1999 when he was named Assistant Vice President of Development, Design and Construction. He has been helping to oversee the hospital’s aggressive expansion and transformation into an integrated provider of advanced acute care and medical services with a network of more than 30 community-based medical specialty and physician practices.

Mount Sinai South Nassau’s expansion will take another big leap forward this summer with the opening of Mount Sinai Doctors – Long Beach, the hospital’s $40 million 15,400-square-foot multispecialty center. Mr. Triolo is also overseeing the construction of the hospital’s $130 million, four-story, 100,000-square-foot Feil Family Pavilion. Expected to be completed in 2024, the Feil Family Pavilion will double the size of the Fennessy Family Emergency Center, increase the critical and intensive care inpatient capacity to 40 beds, and add nine new operating rooms equipped with the latest surgical technologies designed for best  in-class care.

Chief of Department of the Long Beach Fire Department for more than two decades, Mr. Kemins joined the department in October 1980. Mr. Kemins is a five-time Chief of Department and was the youngest elected chief at the age of 26.

In 1990, Mr. Kemins was awarded the Nassau County Bronze Medal of Valor for saving the life of a fire victim at the Long Beach Assisting Living. Mr. Kemins has also served the residents and visitors of the city as a Long Beach lifeguard for more than 40 years.  Before coming to Long Beach full time, he was  an officer with the New York City Police Department for 11 years. Mr. Kemins and his wife, Gayle, have twin 14-year-old daughters, Casey and Hailey, who were born at Mount Sinai South Nassau and spent  two weeks in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

“My wife and I are eternally grateful to the hospital and its staff for the expert care they provided to our twins,” said Mr. Kemins. “We will never forget the kindness and expertise we witnessed first-hand when our girls were in the NICU.”

“Under Scott’s leadership, emergency services on the barrier island have improved significantly. He always works to better coordinate services in the field with area hospitals. He is an asset to our community and it is our pleasure to recognize his essential contributions to our community and to Mount Sinai South Nassau,” said Dr. Sharma.
