Be a Part of Mount Sinai South Nassau’s Annual Golf Outing and Support Advanced Cardiac Care on the South Shore

Mount Sinai South Nassau has named Justin Breslin, vice president of Breslin Realty Development Corporation, as the honoree of its May 11th Annual Golf Outing, which will raise funds to help advance cardiac care on the South Shore.

Jay Itzkowitz, MD, Chair of Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai South Nassau, will be presented with the hospital’s Lifesaver Award, and Ralph Esposito, Director of the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency, has been named as the Community Service honoree.
The largest annual hospital golf fund-raiser on Long Island, the outing will be held at three prestigious golf venues: The Seawane Club, Hewlett Harbor; Rockaway Hunting Club, Lawrence; Rockville Links Club, Rockville Centre.

Net proceeds of this year’s outing will support “Bringing Heart Home,” Mount Sinai South Nassau’s campaign to provide world-leading cardiac care, including open heart surgery, to the residents of the South Shore and across Long Island.

"We are grateful to the many companies and individuals who have supported our annual golf outing year in and year out, raising millions to help Mount Sinai South Nassau become the go-to hospital on the South Shore,” said Tony Cancellieri, co-chair of the outing, “The new Fennessy Family Emergency Department and the new Feil Family Pavilion could not have happened without support from our community,”

The goal of the “Bringing Heart Home” campaign is to raise $5 million over three years to support the equipment and infrastructure needed for a host of new cardiac services coming to the hospital’s Oceanside campus. Cardiac surgeons from the Manhattan-based Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital will be coming to Mount Sinai South Nassau to perform advanced procedures, saving patients and their families from having to go to Manhattan or to the North Shore. The Mount Sinai Hospital location of Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital is ranked No. 2 in the nation for cardiology, heart and vascular surgery by U.S. News & World Report.

“Justin Breslin and his firm have demonstrated a commitment to improving life on the South Shore and we are grateful that he also is supporting the hospital’s efforts to elevate the level of cardiac services available right here in Oceanside,” said Adhi Sharma, MD, President of Mount Sinai South Nassau. “And Dr. Itzkowitz richly deserves the recognition for his daily leadership of our Emergency Department (ED), which sees some 70,000 patient visits a year, helping members of our community who come to us often at their most vulnerable moments. He is always cool under pressure and truly is a lifesaver in the literal sense of the term.”

Dr. Itzkowitz has been vital to the operational efficiency and sustained high-quality patient care provided by the hospital's Fennessy Family Emergency Department as it nears the completion of a $50 million renovation that expanded the ED to the size of a football field with individual exam rooms, a new triage area, and dedicated space for behavioral health patients.

Amid the multi-year expansion, ED nurses in collaboration with Dr. Itzkowitz and hospital leadership implemented a series of innovations that helped improve the “left without being seen” patient rate, a key measurement of emergency department patient satisfaction and performance, from 7 percent in 2023 to below 2 percent in 2024. The ED was awarded the prestigious Lantern Award by the Emergency Nurses Association for reducing waiting times as well as for demonstrating commitment to exceptional and innovative performance in leadership, practice, education, advocacy, and research. The ED continues to serve as the only level II trauma center on Nassau County’s South Shore and is a New York State Department of Health-designated regional stroke center.

A resident of West Hempstead, New York, Dr. Itzkowitz and his wife have three children.

As vice president at Breslin Realty Development, Mr. Breslin plays a key role in the company’s operations and expansion into multifamily development. This includes the transformation of the long-vacant Mangrove Feather Factory in Lynbrook into The Langdon, a 201-unit transit-oriented luxury community, and The Grand, a 215-unit redevelopment along the Grand Avenue corridor in Baldwin, which is entering its final planning stages.

A third-generation member of the Breslin real estate legacy, Mr. Breslin follows in the footsteps of his late grandfather, Wilbur, and father, Kenneth. Since joining the family business in 2017, Mr. Breslin has grown from early roles in retail leasing—where he completed numerous successful transactions—into an integral contributor to the firm’s day-to-day property management operations and long-term strategic growth.

He holds a JD from Hofstra Law with a focus on land use and tax, and a BS from Penn State, and is a member of the New York State Bar Association. Mr. Breslin is currently pursuing a master’s in real estate at New York University’s Schack Institute.

Inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame in 2018, Mr. Esposito is known for his tireless efforts as director of the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency to empower, educate, and provide necessary services to veterans within and beyond the boundaries of Nassau County.

Recognized by the Nassau County Legislature in 2009 and 2010 as “Legionnaire of the Year,” Mr. Esposito has received the “Kind Person Who Cares” Award from the United States Marine Corps for his work in support of the Toys for Tots donation drive; the Humanitarian of the Year Award by the Thomas A. Bennet Foundation, and the Honorable Community Service Award from the Gateway Christian Center.

Mr. Esposito enlisted in the United States Navy in 1961 and served on the U.S.S. Ticonderoga CVA 14, Division V4. He has been an active member of the American Legion since his honorable discharge in 1964, making him a 53-year member. He has also been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for 44 years. Named the 2006 “Elmont Person of the Year” in recognition of his enduring support of former military service men and women as well as his sacrifice and service as a 43-year first responder and Commissioner of the Elmont Fire Department, Mr. Esposito and his wife of 46 years, Joanna, are the proud parents of two sons, John and Michael, and grandparents of four.

“Ralph Esposito has dedicated his career to serving our country and helping the veterans who have sacrificed so much to keep us free and safe,” said Jeff Greenfield, co-chair of the hospital’s golf committee. “We commend and celebrate his commitment to our community.”

Outing sponsorships, journal ads, and foursomes are still available, as well as a pickleball tournament for those who do not golf.
