Brain Cancer
Advanced Treatment for Brain and Skull Base Tumors
For brain cancer and other conditions inside the skull, our experienced surgeons offer our patients the premier treatment for a range of serious, life-threatening brain diseases. It’s the highly advanced, computer-assisted surgery tool, Gamma Knife® Perfexion™. And we were the first on Long Island to bring this level of technology to our communities.
At the hands of our experienced surgeons, the Gamma Knife provides us precision in treating brain abnormalities and cancers that would otherwise require major brain surgery, including:
-
Brain mets — cancers that have spread to the brain from somewhere else in the body
-
Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) — an abnormal collection of blood vessels in the brain that can rupture (or are at risk for rupturing), causing strokelike symptoms
-
Trigeminal neuralgia — severe lancelike pain on one side of the face that used to be called tic douloureux
-
Meningioma — a benign (noncancerous) tumor of the covering of the brain that can occur almost anywhere near the brain
-
Acoustic neuroma, also called vestibular schwannoma — a benign tumor that comes from the nerve that provides hearing and control of balance that is deep in the ear
-
Glioma — better referred to as a primary tumor of the brain — one that starts in brain as opposed to spreading to the brain from somewhere else; Gamma Knife can be used in limited circumstances
-
Pituitary tumor — a benign tumor that arises from one of the many different types of cells in the pituitary gland
