da Vinci Surgical System
What Is the da Vinci
® Surgical System?
The dedicated surgeons at Mount Sinai South Nassau are experienced in using the da Vinci Surgical System to treat urologic and gynecologic conditions, as well as lung cancer. The procedure involves small incisions (cuts) that are usually less than ½ inch wide and tiny surgery tools that your physician guides using magnified images from three-dimensional camera and computer software. Worldwide, the da Vinci Surgical System has been used successfully and safely in tens of thousands of procedures.
It is important to know that surgery with the da Vinci Surgical System does not place a robot at the controls; your surgeon is controlling every aspect of the surgery with the assistance of the da Vinci robotic platform.
Benefits of da Vinci robotic surgery may include:
- Less pain than open surgery
- Less blood loss
- Less opportunity for infection vs. open surgery
- Smaller scars than open surgery
- A faster return to daily activities
