The Mount Sinai South Nassau Chiari EDS Program offers comprehensive diagnostic and state-of-the-art treatment options for patients with Chiari malformation and Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS). Our specialists have extensive experience evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients for a range of conditions, surgeries, and procedures related to Chiari malformations, including:

• 15,000 patients evaluated
• 1,500 Chiari surgeries
• 1,000 Craniocervical fusions
• 1,000 Tethered Cord surgeries
  

Diagnostic Services

• Clinical evaluation by neurosurgeons with extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of Chiari malformation and Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS).
• Our program uses a multidisciplinary team approach, with experts in neurosurgery, neurology, plastic surgery, orthopedics, general surgery, ENT, GI medicine and cardiology. Advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used to evaluate the anatomy and physiology of the base of the skull and the spinal cord. This includes the evaluation of cerebrospinal fluid movement using high-resolution 3 Tesla MRI scanners.
  

Other Treatment Services

• Transoral odontoidectomies are sometimes offered in addition to craniocervical fusion surgery for selected patients with basilar invagination, basilar impression, and other anomalies
  
• Shunting procedures for Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension and Idiopathic or Intractable Syringomyelia
• Styloidectomies
