Residency training is one of the most challenging, rewarding and formative times in a physician’s life. It not only serves as a steppingstone to a much larger career, it also allows you to build meaningful connections, hone your clinical acumen and develop your practice style. Choosing the optimal learning environment is key.
Our department prides itself in providing a supportive and cohesive environment to help you achieve your professional goals. We have grown by leaps and bounds over the past few years thanks to our official affiliation with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai as well as our robust array of residency programs.
What truly sets us apart is our ability to provide individualized attention to our trainees. Even with our growth and expansion, our residents remain at the forefront of all that we do, and the program is constantly evolving to improve our efforts to train and support them.
As a resident, our focus is on you and your education.
From day one of your training, you will be surrounded by supportive faculty, staff and co-residents who will work with you to help you flourish during your four years. Our patient volume will keep you busy learning about common and uncommon disease processes both in Ob, GYN and the subspecialties.
Our beautiful, busy and state of the art labor and delivery unit will serve as your home base and provide you with a broad scope of OB care. Our robust MFM service will provide you with ample opportunities to learn how to manage complicated obstetrical patients and learn advanced ultrasound techniques in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. You will develop and hone your surgical skills while operating with our many fellowship trained subspecialists in GYN Oncology, Urogynecology and Minimally Invasive GYN Surgery (including use of the Da Vinci Robot).
In addition to hands on clinical training, our resident didactics are centered around using the most optimal teaching methods for every learner type. Our didactic sessions are interactive, fun and effective – and we are constantly improving them with the feedback of our residents and faculty. Whether you going through our intern bootcamp and learning how to suture or perform physical exams, practicing shoulder dystocia and post- partum hemorrhage drills using our advanced simulation equipment, training for your FLS exam or preparing to take your board exams, our faculty are working diligently to give you the most effective and comprehensive educational experience both in the classroom and clinical settings.
The Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at Mount Sinai South Nassau offers a supportive environment with dedicated faculty from all subspecialties. We offer excellent clinical and didactic education in an environment that fosters professional and intellectual growth. Our goal is to help you become the best version of yourself so you can provide quality health care in any clinical setting.
We hope you consider our program as your steppingstone on this very exciting journey.
