Mount Sinai South Nassau is in the process of transformation. Founded in 1928, South Nassau has long been known for its patient-centered care and its highly respected Family Medicine Residency Program. A Podiatry residency was established in 2011, and the hospital has recently opened new residency programs in surgery and ob/gyn. Through our partnership with Mount Sinai, we are now building on this foundation and transforming the hospital into a major academic center. Our Internal Medicine Residency, which opened in July 2019, is the next step in the hospital’s growth and transformation.
Our hospital has everything it needs to create a highly successful medicine residency. We have a large and talented faculty which includes full-time subspecialists, 24/7/365 hospitalists, and a cadre of devoted community-based specialists and primary care physicians. Teaching, mentoring, and advising are available in abundance. Our large and diverse patient population provides our residents with experience in dealing with all types of illness, as well as experience in providing individualized health-maintenance and prevention. Specialized services, including interventional cardiology, advanced GI endoscopy, robotic surgery, and gamma knife to name a few, are well-established at South Nassau. But, we’re not stopping there. The hospital is growing, both in size and in services. We are in the midst of a half-billion-dollar expansion project, creating a new 40-bed ICU, new cardiothoracic operating suites, and a new Emergency Department. Highly specialized physicians from Mount Sinai have become part of the fabric of South Nassau, providing quaternary care and performing advanced procedures on our Oceanside campus, bringing the Sinai name and reputation to Nassau County.
Residents entering the Internal Medicine Program have the unique opportunity to come in on the “ground floor” of this exciting new program and hospital transformation. As you grow personally and professionally during your three years of training, you will be part of the hospital’s growth and success. The hospital’s growth will require the addition of physicians to our medical staff, and we anticipate that many of our graduates will choose to stay with us as attending physicians.
We understand that with the excitement of residency there are also challenges. We are committed not only to providing you with an excellent education, but also to giving you the support you need to overcome whatever challenges may come along. As a small program, we will get to know you as individuals and do our very best to meet your needs. Employee wellness is part of Mount Sinai South Nassau's philosophy, and we share in this.
We look forward to receiving your application and meeting you for an interview.
Sincerely,
Steven M. Weiss, MD, FACP
