‘Buy a Brick’ Campaign Kicks Off to Support the Mission of Mount Sinai South Nassau

Mount Sinai South Nassau has kicked off a new “Buy A Brick” fundraising effort that invites the community to support its mission and create a lasting legacy for their family, colleagues and loved ones.

Mount Sinai South Nassau is creating a new 10,100 square-foot pedestrian plaza and garden to be located across the street from the hospital’s main entrance in Oceanside at the corner of One Healthy Way and Oswald Court. Residents are being given the opportunity to dedicate and engrave pavers, trees and benches that will adorn the plaza with special messages commemorating loved ones, colleagues, family members, friends or colleagues. Thousands of patients, visitors and staff will pass through this plaza every day as they enter the front door of the hospital at One Healthy Way. Construction of the 10,100 sq. ft. plaza will commence in the coming weeks. It is expected to open in Spring 2023.

“Mount Sinai South Nassau is grateful for the support of our community," said Tony Cancellieri, co-chair of the hospital’s board of directors, “and we wanted to provide a chance for residents to be part of our ongoing expansion while creating a lasting legacy for their families and friends.”

“This is a unique opportunity,” said Dr. Adhi Sharma, President of Mount Sinai South Nassau. “Many of our patients, visitors and staff have asked how they can support the hospital. This is a great way to help the hospital while also commemorating a loved one, family member or colleague.”

The donation to “Buy a Brick” starts at $100 for a 4”x8” paver; $250 for a 8”x8” paver and $500 for a 12”x12” paver. Benches also can be named for $5,000 while $7,500 secures naming rights for a tree and $10,000 for a table with benches. The naming rights for the entire plaza also are available. The preliminary launch of the campaign occurred during Mount Sinai South Nassau’s 2022 Soiree Under the Stars held September 17, 2022. Hundreds of guests dedicated pavers as well as garden benches and trees to begin the effort, raising $33,650.00 so far in support of Mount Sinai South Nassau’s expansion. The hospital currently is undergoing a $400 million growth initiative designed to improve healthcare services for patients across the South Shore of Long Island. All proceeds from the ‘Buy a Brick’ campaign will be used to help offset costs of the ongoing expansion projects.

Components of the hospital’s capital campaign include a new four-story patient care pavilion in Oceanside that will double the size of the Emergency Department, add 40 new critical care beds and nine new operating rooms, paving the way for open heart surgery on the South Shore, pending health department approval. Meanwhile, a $35 million new Medical Arts Pavilion is close to completion at the hospital’s Long Beach campus and a new Wantagh medical arts building at 2020 Wantagh Avenue is slated to open in 2024. The expansion of the hospital’s Emergency Department in Oceanside will include all private treatment areas with the latest in infection control and will be able to accommodate more than 80,000 patient visits expected each year with dedicated treatment areas for pediatric and behavioral health patients.
