Dr. Rajiv V Datta

Rajiv V. Datta, M.D., Chair Department of Surgery, Director of the Division of Surgical Oncology and Head and Neck Surgery and Medical Director of Gertrude & Louis Feil Cancer Center, is one of the leading head and neck surgeons in the U.S. and an international leader in surgical oncology.

A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Datta earned a medical degree from Grant Medical College in Bombay, India and completed a surgical oncology fellowship at the renowned Tata Memorial Hospital, the largest cancer center in Asia. He completed an internship and residency in general surgery at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The following year he served as a research fellow at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and chief resident at Maimonides Medical Center. This was followed by a dual fellowship in head and neck oncology and surgical oncology at the prestigious Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, N.Y. He spent two years in the United Kingdom, where he became a fellow at the Royal College of Surgeons.

Dr. Datta continues to be listed in Castle Connolly Medical Ltd.'s, Top Doctors: New York Metro Area guide. The acclaimed guide spotlights the top 10 percent of primary care and specialty care physicians in the tri-state New York area. Doctors listed in its top doctor series of guides are selected after peer nomination, extensive research and careful review and screening.

Dr. Datta is the author of "thyroid cancer point-of-care/best practice guidelines" for the prestigious British Medical Journal (BMJ), which is read and used by physicians worldwide. He has written extensively on thyroid neoplasms and colon cancer screening and is a member of the Editorial Board of International Surgery, published by the International College of Surgeons, USA. Dr. Datta is also a member of the Editorial Board of International Surgery, published by the International College of Surgeons, USA.

Dr. Datta also participates in extensive clinical trials that are both federally and privately funded. The focus of his research is finding promising new investigational drugs that will effectively treat many forms of cancer, including cancers of the breast, skin, lung, colon, prostate and pancreas.
