About Your Stay

Mount Sinai South Nassau About Your Stay

Providing superior, quality patient care is at the center of all we do here at Mount Sinai South Nassau. We are dedicated to making your time with us as comfortable as possible, to provide you with the state-of-the-art health care you need, with the compassionate care you deserve.

We’ve put together a checklist to make sure the day of your admission, test or treatment runs as smoothly as possible.

Before your stay:

What to bring with you:

  • Proof of address, such as power or water bill with your address on it
  • Any reports your physician gave you to bring to the hospital
  • Medical insurance information, including insurance cards, precertification forms and any other documents your insurer requires
  • If you are entitled to Medicare benefits, bring your completed Medicare Secondary Payor Questionnaire”
  • A list of names and telephone numbers where members of your immediate family can be reached if necessary
  • A list of all medicines and the amount (or dose) you take, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and supplements.
  • You may want to consider having the following with you:
    • Eyeglasses
    • Hearing aid(s)
    • Dentures
    • Cell phone with charger
    • Car key if you drove yourself to the hospital

If you are admitted, your TV and phone service will be provided to you free.

What to leave at home:

Due to the high volume and the acuity of patients we are caring for, we do not have the resources to track your personal belongings and valuables. You are solely responsible for any property you may bring to the hospital; we must disclaim any responsibility for assuring that your belongings and valuables will remain with you during your stay. We do not want your experience to be marred by the loss of your valuables or property, so it's best that you not bring any valuables with you to the hospital. This includes:

  • Cash
  • Credit/debit cards
  • Insurance cards
  • Wallets
  • Jewelry, such as rings/watches/earrings/bracelets/necklaces and other items that have financial or sentimental value to you.

Understand Your Rights as a Patient

As our patient, you have certain rights and protections guaranteed by state and federal laws. These rights help ensure the quality and safety of your hospital care. To help you understand these rights, we’ll provide a booklet when you are admitted. We’ll be happy to send this booklet to you ahead of time, too. Just contact the Admitting Office at (516) 632-3990. Ask for the booklet, "Your Rights as a Hospital Patient,” published by the New York State Department of Health and its Consumer Health Information Council.
