Your Care Team

Our Cancer Experts

The cancer (or oncology) program of South Nassau Communities Hospital makes cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery a team effort. Quality care and compassion are both important aspects of that care.

To make sure we create the best treatment plan for every patient, our experts meet regularly during “Cancer Case Conferences” and “Tumor Boards.” During these meetings, various specialists and sub-specialists discuss one-on-one what treatments are possible and which ones are the best for each patient. And together, we determine the best course of treatment, including surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, clinical trials, genetic testing, counseling and other forms of care that will best help each patient. Learn more about the members of your care team at South Nassau:

  • Surgical oncologists focus on removing cancer through surgery. At South Nassau, many of our surgeons are dedicated to specific types of cancer, offering a higher level of expertise and training
  • Medical oncologists manage your overall treatment plan and chemotherapy while collaborating with other team members to provide streamlined, world-class care
  • Radiation oncologists plan and deliver radiation care to patients who need it
