Why Is Revision Surgery Needed?

Some weight loss surgeries have associated complications that may require additional surgery.

The good news is that a new, noninvasive procedure called StomaphyX® is now available. The procedure is designed to give those patients who have regained weight after weight loss surgery a second chance. StomaphyX can prevent hunger and help improve your chance for long-term weight loss success.

The procedure uses the StomaphyX device, which allows doctors to perform the procedure without any external or internal incisions.

The benefits of this procedure include:

  • No need for surgical incisions
  • Enables the surgeon to reduce the size of the stomach
  • Preserves future treatment options
  • Essentially no pain for the patient
  • Faster recovery than with open or laparoscopic procedures

Reasons for revision surgery after LAP-BAND® surgery include:

  • Have not reached your desired weight loss goal
  • Have regained weight
  • Band slippage/pouch enlargement
  • Obstruction of the stomach-band outlet
  • Esophageal enlargement or poor esophageal function
  • Leak or twist at the access port
  • Band erosion into the stomach
  • Port displacement, port site pain

Reasons for revision after a gastric bypass or gastric sleeve surgery:

  • Have not reached your desired weight loss goal
  • Have regained weight over time
  • Leaks
  • Bleeding
  • Hernias
  • Obstruction
  • Restriction
