The skilled and compassionate infusion services team at Mount Sinai South Nassau provides a comfortable, quiet and patient-focused environment for patients receiving infusions. The highly trained professional staff communicate with your referring physician throughout the prescribed course(s) of treatment. You receive your infusion treatment in a comfortable recliner in a quiet semi-private room and may watch television, enjoy reading a good book, use our iPads or just relax.

Comprehensive Treatment Options

The staff at the center works with a diverse population of patients and patient needs. The Infusion Services team specializes in intravenous (IV) treatments. Services and treatments provided here include:

  • Chemotherapy
  • Hydration therapy
  • Intramuscular injections
  • Intravenous (IV) therapies, such as:
    • IV antibiotic therapy
    • IV anti-emetic care
    • IV immune globulin
  • Monoclonal antibodies
  • Subcutaneous injections
  • Therapeutic phlebotomy
  • Transfusions of blood products

During IV therapy, medication or fluids are delivered directly into your body through a thin catheter or needle. To help ensure maximum safety, electronic computerized pumps control the rate of the infusion so that you receive the exact amount of medicine or fluids in the proper amount of time. Infusions can be delivered through both peripherally inserted central catheter lines and central lines. To help you get the most from your treatments, the skilled outpatient infusion team offers other supportive services:

  • Assessment and evaluation of your condition
  • Educational and instructional materials to help you and your family members better understand your care and treatment
  • Ongoing collaboration with your physician

Your Infusion Team

Infusion services are provided by experienced nurse clinicians who specialize intravenous treatment. A clinical pharmacist is available to assist nursing staff in the pharmacologic management of certain disease states requiring frequent medication administration.

Location and Hours

The outpatient infusion treatment area is located of the 4th floor of the F building on the Mount Sinai South Nassau main campus. Treatment hours are incorrect: should read: The treatment area is open Monday to Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm; and Saturday, 8:00am-4pm, by appointment only. The Infusion Center is closed Sunday. We work with patients to provide a treatment schedule that provides minimal disruption to their activities of daily living. Families are welcomed and encouraged to accompany patients, since involvement and understanding of the patient’s clinical regimen supports their compliance with that regimen.
