For Complex or High-Risk Pregnancies
The staff of South Nassau Communities Hospital’s Maternity Services includes some of the area's leading specialists in high-risk pregnancies. From genetic counseling before conception, to monitoring of your baby before and during birth, we offer experience and expertise to ensure the best possible health for you and your baby.
During all stages of development before your baby is born, we use advanced technology and tools, such as amniocentesis and ultrasound, to diagnose and monitor development. And we’ve also established a strong partnership with specialists and subspecialists in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Winthrop-University Hospital, Mineola, N.Y. Through this partnership, you and your unborn child have the support of an additional team of well-respected experts in high-risk pregnancies, before and after your baby is born.
And when you’re ready to deliver, the dedicated specialists of our Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) will be standing by.
Keeping Women and Their Unborn Babies as Healthy as Possible
Our exceptional team of physicians complements the care of your obstetrician. We provide consultation, sonogram review and other testing for conditions that might affect the health of the mother or unborn baby. Sometimes, these conditions are pregnancy-related. At other times, the mother has a health condition before getting pregnant.
Every day, our team of experts in high-risk pregnancies helps women who have:
- Blood-clotting disorders
- Gastrointestinal disease
- Heart disease
- High blood pressure
- Preeclampsia (high blood pressure and others symptoms related to pregnancy)
- Infectious diseases such as HIV (human immunodeficiency virus)
- Kidney disease
- Lung disease
- Medicines in the mother’s body that might affect an unborn baby
