South Nassau Communities Hospital is the only hospital on Long Island to achieve Healthgrades® America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery™, Orthopedic Surgery Excellence Award™, and 5-star ratings for Total Knee Replacement, Total Hip Replacement and Hip Fracture Treatment in 2018.

According to Healthgrades, orthopedic surgery at South Nassau is among the top 10% in the nation— in terms of favorable patient outcomes as measured by data reported to the federal government and compared to some 4,500 other acute care hospitals nationwide. Healthgrades is the leading independent, online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.  Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance nationally for 34 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.  The achievements are part of findings released by Healthgrades and is featured in its 2018 Report to the Nation (which can be found at www.healthgrades.com/quality). The report demonstrates how clinical performance continues to differ dramatically between hospitals regionally and nationally.

South Nassau also earned high Healthgrades rankings for patient safety and for women’s health, receiving the Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award for two years in a row and the Healthgrades Gynecologic Procedures Excellence Award for five years in a row.

In addition, Healthgrades has named South Nassau as a Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Pneumonia for three years in a row and Five-Star Recipient for Small Intestine Surgeries in 2018.

“The Healthgrades ranking is particularly important – from a consumer standpoint – because it is completely based on an independent assessment of patient outcome statistics reported nationwide,” said Richard J. Murphy, president and CEO at South Nassau Communities Hospital. “The Healthgrades ranking provides independent verification of what we here at South Nassau have known for some time – you can receive world-class orthopedic care right here on the South Shore without having to travel into the city. This is an award of which we can all be proud.”

South Nassau also recently received high Healthgrades honors for patient safety and in women’s care, receiving the Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award for two years in a row (2016-2017) and the Healthgrades Gynecologic Procedures Excellence Award for five years in a row (2013-2017).

In women’s care, Healthgrades recognized South Nassau for Superior Performance in Gynecologic Procedures for five years in a row (2013-2017). The hospital also achieved a Five-Star rating for hysterectomy for three years in a row (2015-2017).
