Celebrating National Nurses Week

HEALING IS THEIR PURPOSE
Each year, National Nurses Day, also known as National RN Recognition Day, is celebrated on May 6 and opens National Nurses Week. Nurses Week begins each year on May 6 and ends on May 12, the birth date of Florence Nightingale. During this special week, nursing staff at Mount Sinai South Nassau are recognized for their dedication and commitment.

Numerous activities are held throughout the week, including:

  • Annual Nurses Day Breakfast and RN Awards/Recognition Program

  • Nurses Day Dessert Reception for the evening shift

  • Unit theme contest

  • Lobby display

  • Unit milestone pinnings

  • Blessing of the Hands led by Mount Sinai South Nassau's Chaplain

Celebrating Certified Nurses Day

Each year, Certified Nurses Day, is celebrated on March 19th. At South Nassau, we recognize our Certified Nurses with a Luncheon and Floral Corsage presentation.

Magnet Recognition

Designated a Magnet® hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), Mount Sinai South Nassau received this recognition after demonstrating excellence in patient care in more than 35 areas of focus throughout the entire hospital, demanding widespread participation from leadership and staff. The Magnet Recognition Program provides the ultimate benchmark for patients and their families to measure the quality of care they can expect at a hospital. It is called “Magnet” because of the hospital’s ability to attract and retain professional nurses. This credential places South Nassau among a select group of fewer than 7 percent of all health care organizations in the nation to earn Magnet recognition.
