Transitional Year Residency

Mount Sinai South Nassau has long been committed to the training of residents since 1977. Our Transitional Year Residency Program began in 2014 and has trained residents who have continued on to a multitude of different specialties. We are based out of an award-winning, 455-bed, acute care, not-for-profit teaching hospital located in Oceanside, New York.  We provide a well-balanced program of graduate medical education to assist our residents towards their desired specialty, including specialties requiring a year of fundamental clinical education as a prerequisite.  

The Transitional Year Program at Mount Sinai South Nassau provides a well-rounded, solid foundation to begin your postgraduate training. Our program is committed to providing the best possible educational experience for the trainee by combining academics and education with hands-on, direct patient care. Our affiliations with several medical schools permit teaching opportunities throughout the residents' training. We are a suburban, community based, medical school-affiliated program, with easy access to the resources of both New York City and beautiful Long Island.

The focus of the program is on education, with a strong didactic program and easy access to our faculty, as well as other specialists and sub-specialists involved in our teaching program. We take pride in our warm, supportive educational environment, with personalized attention provided to each resident.

Mount Sinai South Nassau has formed an affiliation with Mount Sinai, which will position South Nassau as the Long Island flagship institution of the Mount Sinai Health System and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. With this affiliation, Mount Sinai will bring its academic, clinical, and research expertise to South Nassau.
