Greetings. Welcome to the General Surgery Residency at Mount Sinai South Nassau. Our goal is to train competent and confident general surgeons.

We are excited to train the next generation of surgeons as a young and vibrant program. We have a high volume of general surgery cases in our program and residents begin operating day 1. You will be exposed to simple and complex cases in all the sub-specialties and engage in a robust didactic program. Our simulation program is run by Dr. Takahashi, a member of our core faculty, including training in FLS, FEC and robotics. We have a multifaceted wellness program led by Dr. Sticco, a member of our core faculty. Our Associate Program Director, Dr. Andaz is our research director and we have our residents writing peer reviewed papers and presenting at local, regional, and national conferences. Our chairman Dr. Datta is intimately involved in our teaching program as a busy surgeon and in his regularly scheduled teaching sessions. We have an ACS level 2 trauma program along with a closed surgical ICU. We have very busy programs in colorectal surgery, surgical oncology, thoracic oncology, bariatrics, head and neck, breast, melanoma, vascular and acute care surgery.

For transplant and complex hepatobiliary we partner with Mount Sinai and residents spend a month at the main campus in Manhattan for a rich experience. We partner with Cohen’s Children’s Hospital for a wonderful experience in pediatric surgery.

Our program is sponsored by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
