Pain Management

If you have experienced chronic pain for a year or more, you know the devastating impact it can have on your job, family life - even the treatment of an unrelated health problem.

Our dedicated Pain Management Center can help. One of the few area hospitals with this service, the Center provides traditional, complementary and alternative methods for treating sharp, endless, throbbing, acute and chronic pain.

Our staff of specialists works with you to understand the causes of your pain, creates a personalized pain relief program to combat it, then intensely monitors its effectiveness to achieve the most complete outcome. Your treatment plan may include:

• Nerve block, which consists of epidural steroid injections, radiofrequency, cryosurgery and spinal stimulation. It is conducted by a staff with special training in this procedure and performed in a dedicated unit.
• Cryotherapy, which is another way to "freeze" a painful nerve. This treatment can last a few weeks to several months depending on your condition.
• Radiofrequency Thermocoagulation Therapy (RFTC), which heats the outside of a nerve to interrupt the transmission of pain sensation to the brain. This procedure provides many months of pain relief.

South Nassau’s Pain Management Center provides care to both inpatients and outpatients requiring interventional pain management procedures. The pain management anesthesiologists, who are assisted by highly skilled registered nurses, are trained in cutting edge interventional pain management modalities. The unit performs over 350 pain management procedures each month and is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 6:00PM.
