Craig Levitz, M.D.

Dr. Levitz is South Nassau's chair of orthopedics and director of orthopedic surgery. He is one of a small number of physicians nationwide who are board-certified and fellowship-trained in sports medicine. He is nationally renowned for his use of minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures for knee and shoulder repair. He has almost twenty years' experience in orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Levitz has pioneered the region's use of such advanced techniques as Carticel® therapy, UniKnee™ replacement, and meniscal transplants.
Dr. Levitz was recently honored for the fourth consecutive year as one of New York's Top Doctors in orthopedic surgery by Castle Connolly, and has also been honored by Long Island Business News as Top Orthopedic Surgeon on Long Island.
A Cornell University graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Levitz is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopic Association of North America, and the American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine. He holds a fellowship in sports medicine from the American Institute of Sports Medicine.
Bradley Gerber, M.D.
Knee Replacement - Hip Replacement
A national leader in hip resurfacing procedures, Dr. Gerber is fellowship-trained in adult reconstruction and is recognized for his use of leading-edge techniques in all areas of total hip and knee surgery. Dr. Gerber is South Nassau's chief of total joint replacement surgery.
Dr. Gerber was one of the first physicians in this area to perform Birmingham Hip™ Resurfacing, an alternative to total hip replacement.
A graduate of Upstate Medical University's Department of Orthopedic Surgery in Syracuse, Dr. Gerber is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons; a Fellow of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons; a member of the New York State Medical Society; and a member of the Nassau County Medical Society. He holds a fellowship in adult reconstruction from Ranawat Orthopedic Center in Manhattan.
James A. Germano, M.D.

Dr. Germano is chief of South Nassau's hip service. He is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedist who subspecializes in total hip and knee replacement with a special interest in revision arthroplasty. He is skilled in minimally invasive and computer-assisted surgery as well as alternative bearing surgery. He is also one of Long Islands only hip arthroscopy specialists, allowing him to treat almost any hip problem regardless of age. A graduate of Upstate Medical University’s Department of Orthopedic Surgery in Syracuse, Dr. Germano is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a candidate member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He holds a fellowship in adult reconstructive surgery from New England Baptist Hospital, Boston.
Michael B. Shapiro, M.D.
Chief of spine surgery at South Nassau, Dr. Shapiro is a board-certified, fellowship-trained spinal surgeon recognized as one of the nation's leaders in the areas of spinal instrumentation, revision spinal surgery and disc arthroplasty surgery. His practice focuses on the treatment of spinal disorders, lower back and neck pain, osteoporosis, scoliosis and sciatica.
Dr. Shapiro specializes in a number of cutting-edge spinal surgical techniques such as kyphoplasty, and lumbar disc replacement.
A graduate of New York Medical College in Valhalla, Dr. Shapiro is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, and the Spine Arthroplasty Society He holds a fellowship in spinal reconstructive surgery from Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System, Baltimore.
