9-11 FORWARD
Dear Families of the World Trade Center Family Center,
It has been an honor and privilege for South Nassau Communities Hospital to have provided a "safe harbor" to you and your families for the past seven years. Together we have learned about the value of community during the process of healing. Hope, indeed, does "love company". Thank you for placing your trust in us as we navigated through a very challenging period in our nation's history. We are very proud of the efforts of our World Trade Center Family Center staff in designing innovative counseling and prevention programs which have helped support your recovery and resiliency.
On June 30th, 2008, our grant funding through the American Red Cross ended. We are pleased that most families benefited from the prevention services that we provided through the program. We believe that a transition in the type of programming offered by South Nassau is appropriate at this time. Our World Trade Center Family Center staff has worked with you to provide valuable linkages and referrals to specialized 9/11 prevention and advocacy programs. In addition, South Nassau Communities Hospital will continue to be available to address any mental health or medical needs you or your family may have. Please contact the following members of our Hospital's leadership if we can be of any assistance now or in the future.

The Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund was established on September 14, 2001 as a result of the tragedy at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The goal of the fund is to provide direct assistance to those who lost loved ones in the tragedy. 100% of the money donated to the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund is disbursed directly to the families and loved ones. http://cantorrelief.org/
Families of September 11, Inc. (FOS11) is a nonprofit organization founded in October 2001 by families of those who died in the September 11 terrorist attacks. Membership is open to anyone affected by the events of September 11, be they family members, survivors, responders, or others as well as those who support our mission. The group has two goals: To support families and children by offering updated information on issues of interest, access to resources, relevant articles, and advocacy to raise awareness about the effects of terrorism and public trauma; To champion domestic and international policies that respond to the threat of terrorism including support for the 9/11 Commission Recommendations, and to reach out to victims of terror worldwide. http://www.familiesofseptember11.org/
The September 11th Families' Association supports victims of terrorism through communication, representation and peer support. Their mission is to unite the September 11th community, present evolving issues, and share resources for long-term recovery. The Tribute Center was created by the September 11th Families Association to share the personal stories of victims, survivors, rescue and recovery workers, volunteers, and residents of Lower Manhattan. By engaging visitors in the authentic experiences of those most affected by the events of 9/11, the exhibits will convey the courage, loss, heroism, and grief of those who responded to the tragedy. http://www.tributenyc.org/
September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows is an organization founded by family members of those killed on September 11th who have united to turn grief into action for peace. By developing and advocating nonviolent options and actions in the pursuit of justice, the families hope to break the cycles of violence engendered by war and terrorism. Acknowledging a common experience with all people affected by violence throughout the world, they work to create a safer and more peaceful world for everyone. http://www.peacefultomorrows.org/
September's Mission is one of the leading 9/11 non-profit Sec. 501 (c) (3) organizations to support the development of a memorial on the former site of the World Trade Center to honor the lives lost on September 11. The Skyscraper Safety Campaign, (SSC), is a project of parents and relatives who lost loved ones in the September 11th attack at the World Trade Center. While condemning the terrorists' attack, the campaign is dedicated to finding out why and how the WTC collapsed, to ensuring that quality, safety and security are priorities in rebuilding lower Manhattan and to reforming New York City building codes. http://www.skyscrapersafety.org/
Tuesday's Children is a non-profit family service organization that has made long term commitment to every child who lost a parent on 9/11, providing a wide range of programming including mentoring and advocacy for children, educational and career guidance for teens, and next-step and creative life management skills for adults. Voices of September 11 was established in October of 2001 by families to create an information clearinghouse for those affected by the attacks through the use of a web site, electronic newsletter, mailings and media outreach. It soon became clear that the 9/11 families required more information and VOICES role evolved to meet the families' needs. VOICES also contributed to the establishment of the independent, bi-partisan 9/11 Commission, and the reorganization of America's intelligence services with the Collins-Lieberman Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004. VOICES continues to support the implementation of the 9/11 Commission's recommendations for government reform. http://www.voicesofsept11.org/
WTC United Family Group is a nonprofit 501(c)3 community headquartered in New Jersey and comprised of September 11th families, survivors and rescue workers from all over the United States and the world. The community, built on the principles of trust and shared experience, will serve as a living tribute to the thousands of innocent men, women and children murdered in the September 11th attacks on America. http://www.coalitionof911families.org/
WTC FAMILIES FOR PROPER BURIAL
WTCFamiliesforProperBurial@comcast.net
Mission: To ensure the removal of the "ashen remains" of those killed on September 11, 2001 from the Fresh Kills landfill. To place these remains in appropriate containers, if required. To return these Remains preferably to the WTC site for their respectful dignified and final resting place, the ultimate goal being a proper burial. In order to alert the public to a gross indignity being committed against those killed on September 11, 2001, our advocacy group "WTC Families for Proper Burial, Inc." has been established. The group includes 9/11 family members, friends, and concerned citizens from across the United States and abroad. We seek to inform the general public of the injustice of leaving the ashen remains of those killed at the WTC in a garbage dump, the Fresh Kills landfill in Staten Island. The City of New York has taken the position that the ashen remains should not be removed from the landfill.
