Dr. Datta established South Nassau's Surgical Oncology Program in 2001. He specializes in gastrointestinal, colorectal, pancreatic and hepatobiliary cancers, endocrine and soft tissue malignancies, and melanoma and head and neck cancers using minimally-invasive approaches. He trained at Grant Medical College and Tata Memorial Cancer Center in India with advanced training in plastic surgery and surgical oncology in the UK, prior to a research fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He completed a dual fellowship in surgical oncology and head and neck surgery at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY and then served on the faculty of Maimonides Medical Center and Coney Island Hospital. He is recognized by Castle Connolly as one of New York’s top doctors and as one of the top colorectal surgeons in the U.S. His wide surgical experience is enhanced by use of the da Vinci robot. Dr. Datta speaks Hindi and Punjabi.

Shahriyour Andaz, MD, FACS – Director, Thoracic Oncology
A specialist in thoracic surgery and thoracic oncology, Dr. Andaz is especially interested in the early diagnosis of lung cancer through clinical assessment and via CT scan. He completed his surgical fellowship training at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and Glasgow, UK, his thoracic surgery residency at Maimonides Medical Center, and advanced fellowship training at UCLA Medical Center, with emphasis in thoracic oncology and extensive training in video-assisted thorascoscopy lobectomies, complicated chest wall resections, advanced surgery of the trachea and esophagus, lung volume reduction surgery and pleurectomy for mesothelioma. Using the da Vinci robot, Dr. Andaz performs procedures such as lobectomies, wedge resections, and other procedures that would normally be performed using conventional surgical techniques. Dr. Andaz is fluent in Hindi.

Ann L. Buhl, MD, FACOG, FACS – Director, Gynecologic Oncology
Dr. Buhl is board-certified in both OB/GYN and gynecologic oncology, dedicated to caring for women with cancerous and non-cancerous diseases of the female reproductive system. She is recognized as a skilled surgeon who utilizes minimally invasive approaches to diagnose and treat early-stage, advanced, or recurrent gynecologic cancers as well as non-malignant gynecologic conditions. She holds a BA from Wesleyan University, obtained her MD degree from New York Medical College, and completed residency training in OB/GYN at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. During her fellowship in gynecologic oncology at SUNY Downstate, Dr. Buhl has directed numerous clinical trials and has been an active contributor to scientific publications.

Ira Bachman, MD – Director, Gynecology
Dr. Bachman is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and is known throughout the New York area for his experience in obstetrics/gynecology & gynecologic surgery. In 2010, he added da Vinci robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgical techniques for non-cancerous gynecologic conditions to his list of accomplishments. Dr. Bachman earned his BA in Biology from the prestigious Johns Hopkins University in Maryland and his medical degree from SUNY Stony Brook and completed his residency there as well. He is a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Dr. Bachman joined South Nassau in 1995.

Lanna Cheuck, DO - Urologic Surgeon
Dr. Cheuck specializes in robotic radical prostatectomy and the advancement of minimally invasive, robotic-assisted surgical procedures. She obtained her medical degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Greenvale, New York and completed Fellowship training in Robotic/laparoscopic/endoscopic minimally invasive urology at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein School of Medicine. She completed an internship in general surgery at the University of Massachusetts/Memorial Health Care Hospital and a urology residency at the Rhode Island Hospital/Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. An honors graduate of SUNY at Stony Brook University with a degree in biological sciences, Dr. Cheuck is a member of numerous professional associations and has presented at the World Congress of Endourology. Dr. Cheuck is fluent in Spanish and Cantonese Chinese.

David A. Silver, MD, FACS – Director, Urologic Oncology
Dr. Silver is a pioneer in the application of robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgical techniques to urologic procedures. He has particular expertise in such areas as hematuria, PSA abnormalities, kidney-sparing surgery for renal tumors, cystectomy with continent urinary diversion, testicular tumor surgery, and multimodal management of bladder and prostate cancer. He completed his MD degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and completed residency training at Maimonides Medical Center. Dr. Silver also serves on the thirteen-member New York State Prostate and Testicular Cancer Detection and Education Advisory Council, which meet regularly throughout the year in Albany to advise the Department of Health on a range of men's health issues.

Rajeev Vohra, MD – Director, Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery
Dr. Vohra joined South Nassau Communities Hospital in February 2001 as the Chief of Bariatric Surgery. He completed his general surgery residency and laparoscopic training at New York University Medical Center. He is a pioneer in the field of laparoscopic and bariatric surgery, performing laparoscopic gastric bypass, lap-band and advanced laparoscopic procedures including colon resection, surgery for reflux, solid organ removal (spleen, adrenal, pancreas), inguinal and ventral hernias and biliary surgery. He now brings his already impressive surgical expertise to new heights using the da Vinci robot.
