" I love South Nassau for many reasons. It is hard to put it all into words but I will try...
I love South Nassau for its nurturing atmosphere. I started here over 17 years ago as a nurse aide by night and a nursing student by day. I had a one year old and two year old at home and got through those long night hours with the support of the South Nassau family. They supported me through their words and actions and welcomed me as one of their own. I obtained my nursing degree a year later and was immediately offered an RN position. I became float nurse and was welcomed to each unit as if I were the caped or capped crusader who had come to save the day. I always felt that the staff were happy to see me and I was happy to come to work each day. We worked as a team. After 4 years of floating I accepted a position in the ED and felt like I was truly home. I have been an ED staff member for over 13 years. I work alongside some of the most experienced nurses in the hospital and am proud to do so. I became an assistant nurse manager and then nurse manager within the ED. An example of the opportunities for growth at South Nassau. I have presented concerns and ideas to administration and feel that I am acknowledged and listened to. Administration has an open door policy.
I love that South Nassau is growing. We are moving forward with new initiatives and are always striving to improve our patient care and better meet the needs of our community. We are not complacent. There is never a dull moment at South Nassau, we are movers and shakers.
I love how we have grown our student nurse intern and extern programs. We are invested in providing learning experiences for not only our own employees but for the future nurses of our community. We also invest in the young of our community by established relationships with our local schools and providing the opportunities to expose our future leaders to jobs in the health care environment.
I love the friendships that I have developed through SNCH. We share in the joys and sorrows of our life in and outside of work.
I love that it is a friendly environment. Its hard to frown at SNCH, you would feel out of place. The units and halls are full of the usual hustle bustle but you will notice a steady stream of greetings and smiles as you move from place to place.
I am a South Nassau nurse, I am part of the South Nassau family."
