OR Training Program
South Nassau Communities Hospital's AORN Endorsed Perioperative Nursing Course 101
This program is designed to provide basic didactic periopertative education that will give the novice OR nurse the rationale and theory needed to provide safe patient care. It is intended to be used in conjunction with a clinical preceptorship.
The Periop 101 program consists of 25 scripted modules and a final examination for students plus one module for preceptors.
The Periop 101 training program is designed to be completed in sync with the RN orientation timetable of 6 months. The Periop 101 candidate will attend a didactic program to be presented within an eighty hour time frame. This also coincides with clinical practice that includes a full time preceptor.
Throughout the didactic phase, the students are given exams for each module, assigned case studies and are given required reading assignments. At the end of the course there is a final exam which requires a minimum score of 80% to pass.
