South Nassau Names Chief of Colon, Rectal Surgery
Oceanside, NY – South Nassau Communities Hospital recently appointed Dean Paul Pappas, MD, FACS, FASCRS, Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery. Before this appointment, Dr. Pappas served at a prominent colorectal surgery practice located in the New York metro area.
“Dr. Pappas has extensive experience using minimally invasive surgical technologies,” said Rajiv Datta, MD, South Nassau’s Chairman of the Department of Surgery and Chief of Surgical Oncology/Head & Neck Surgery. “The communities served by South Nassau will benefit from Dr. Pappas’s specialization in colorectal surgical oncology and commitment to minimally invasive surgical techniques.” Minimally invasive surgery leads to faster recovery, reduced postoperative discomfort and less scarring for patients.
Dr. Pappas is a specialist in managing complex disorders and advanced cancers of the colon and rectum and treating pelvic floor disorders, incontinence and constipation. He also excels at endoscopic removal of growths and masses in the colon during a colonoscopy, which eliminates the need for major surgery.
After completing medical school and residency training at the Stony Brook School of Medicine, Dr. Pappas completed fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery at Orlando Regional Medical Center, Orlando, FL.
Dr. Pappas is a fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. Involved in research and studies on surgical techniques and approaches, Dr. Pappas has co-authored papers that have been published in The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery.
