Dr. Linda S. Efferen Appointed SVP/Chief Medical Officer At South Nassau Communities Hospital


South Nassau Communities Hospital is pleased to announce that Dr. Linda S. Efferen has been appointed senior vice president and chief medical officer effective June 1, 2009. Notes hospital president/CEO Joseph Quagliata, “We are honored to have a physician with such outstanding credentials as those of Dr. Efferen’s at South Nassau and we look forward to working with her to continue to bring the highest quality of care to the communities we serve.”

As chief medical officer, Dr. Efferen will be responsible for facilitating medical staff interactions with hospital administration and the governing board and for assuring the effective and efficient delivery of quality medical care consistent with the mission of South Nassau. She will also oversee strategic planning and execution, as well as the implementation of care management programs, and monitor the effectiveness of management practices and productivity indicators.

Prior to her appointment at South Nassau, Dr. Efferen was associate chair/department of medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center for over eight years. Prior to that she served as chief/division of pulmonary and critical care medicine at SUNY-Health Science Center in Brooklyn. She held a number of other positions during her tenure at SUNY-Health Science Center.

Dr. Efferen is board certified in hospice and palliative medicine, critical care medicine, pulmonary medicine and internal medicine. She has been listed in the Consumers Research Council of America’s Guide to America’s Top Physicians, Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors: New York Metro Area (for seven years), Best Doctors’ Best Doctors in America and has received a host of awards/honors. She is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the New York Academy of Science, American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Critical Care Physicians, American College of Medical Quality, American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
