South Nassau is a Pacesetter for Blood Donations
South Nassau Communities Hospital has been named a winner of the Long Island Blood Service (LIBS) 2008 Pacesetter Award. The annual award is presented to hospitals and organizations that collect more than 500 pints of blood during the year. In 2008, South Nassau held four blood drives that collected a combined totaled of 1,096 units of blood.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that South Nassau has earned the Pacesetter Award. In 2005, South Nassau was awarded the LIBS Diamond Award, which is presented to hospitals and organizations that achieve above-average employee participation rate of 50 Pints per 100 employees and a high total of blood donations. South Nassau also received the Gold Medal Award from America’s Blood Centers in 2004 for its efforts in raising awareness of the need for blood donation and its support of community blood drive programs and it finished first among Long Island hospitals for employee blood donations in 2002 to win Vytra Health Plans’ Hospital Blood Donor Campaign Championship.
South Nassau’s leadership in collecting blood donations is accentuated by its partnership with LIBS to promote blood donations. Recently, LIBS and South Nassau opened the doors to LIBS’ new donor center at 290 Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre, NY. For information and hours of operation, please click here.
