Your Career at South Nassau
Family Residency
The Family Practice Residency Program at South Nassau Communities Hospital is a suburban, community based, medical school affiliated program, with easy access to New York City resources.
Family Practice is the center of all teaching activities. We combine academics and education with hands on, direct patient care. Our affiliation with Winthrop-University Hospital permits access to the resources of larger tertiary institutions. We also have a strong collaborative relationship with the Department of Family Medicine at SUNY-Stony Brook School of Medicine for over twenty years. Recently, we expanded our role as teachers of Family Medicine by developing rotations for students from SUNY-Brooklyn, Downstate School of Medicine and New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.
The three years of residency training in Family Practice are possibly the most important in one’s entire medical education. Our program is committed to providing the best possible educational experience for the resident.
The focus of the program is on education, with a strong didactic program and easy access to our Family Practice faculty, as well as other specialists and subspecialists involved in our teaching program. We take pride in our warm, supportive educational environment, with personalized attention provided to each resident.
Our Family Practice Center is the hub of the residency program. It allows the full spectrum of Family Medicine to be practiced, including a large pediatric and women’s health population. Additionally, involvement with a community nursing home and area schools permits the residents to have a well rounded, inpatient and outpatient experience.
