The proceeds from this event will benefit the Emergency Department, a Level II Trauma Center and State-designated Regional Stroke Center, and the area's leading center for specialized emergency care serving more than 900,000 south shore residents. The importance of having excellent emergency services available to the communities we serve was never more apparent than after Superstorm Sandy. Honoring: Ethel Simmons, Past President – South Nassau Communities Hospital Auxiliary
Ethel Simmons is one of those special individuals who is dedicated to meeting the needs of the community. She has served South Nassau's Volunteer Services Department and Auxiliary tirelessly for more than ten years. Wherever there is a hospital fundraising event, Ms. Simmons has had a hand in it. A past board member of South Nassau and past president of South Nassau's Auxiliary, she currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Oceanside Counseling Center and is a member of South Nassau's Community Advocacy Committee.
To say she's committed to the community is an understatement. Outside of the hospital, Ms. Simmons is very active in the Baldwin community and local politics. Since 2007 she has been a member of the Baldwin Rotary, a past president and member of their Board of Directors. Ms. Simmons is an active volunteer in her local parish, St. Christopher's Roman Catholic Church in Baldwin, where she serves as Secretary of the Parish Council and of the Rosary Altar Society. For more than six years she has been Chair of the Catholic Ministry Appeal and speaks throughout the Diocese on its behalf. She also serves on the Ministry of Consolation, is an Eucharistic Minister, Lector, active member of the Liturgy Committee and Spiritual Chair of the Rosary Altar Society.
Ms. Simmons currently resides in Oceanside and has traveled on numerous occasions to the Carribean island of Jamaica to help the Missionaries of the Poor serve the impoverished, and physically and mentally-challenged women and children.
