South Nassau’s Dr. Rajiv Datta Receives CLP Outstanding Performance Award from the ACoS Commission on Cancer
Oceanside, NY - Dr. Rajiv Datta, Chair of Surgery and Director of Surgical Oncology for South Nassau Communities Hospital, has received the 2006 Cancer Liaison Physician (CLP) Outstanding Performance Award from the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Commission on Cancer. He is one of just 57 physicians to be honored nationwide.
The award recognizes those individuals who go above and beyond the regular scope of their duties. Along with his myriad day-to-day responsibilities, Dr. Datta is actively involved in improving the quality of care delivered at South Nassau and contributing to the approval status of the hospital’s cancer program. As the CLP at South Nassau from 2003-07, Dr. Datta continually exceeded CLP expectations with regard to strengthening South Nassau’s cancer program and demonstrated cancer control leadership to the community.

Dr. Datta is recognized as one of the leading head and neck surgeons in the U.S. and is an internationally known leader in surgical oncology. He was awarded a Fellowship in the International College of Surgeons in 2005 and has served as South Nassau’s Cancer Liaison Physician to the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer since 2003. Prior to joining South Nassau in 2001, Dr. Datta was Director of Surgical Oncology at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn.
A graduate of Grant Medical College in Bombay, India, he has trained at some of the most prestigious surgical oncology and head and neck surgery programs in the world, including Tata Memorial Hospital, the largest cancer center in Asia, and England’s Royal College of Surgeons where he achieved Fellowship. Following his stay at the Royal College of Surgeons, Dr. Datta continued his training with a Research Fellowship at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. This was followed by a rare opportunity for a dual Fellowship in head and neck oncology and surgical oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. Dr. Datta is a resident of Jericho, NY.
