Weight Loss Revisional Surgery

If you have already undergone a form of bariatric surgery and had complications or did not successfully lose weight, revisional surgery might be an option for you.

Why Is Revisional Surgery Needed?

Some weight loss surgeries have associated complications that may require additional surgery.

The good news is that a new, noninvasive procedure called StomaphyX® is now available. The procedure is designed to give those patients who have regained weight after weight loss surgery a second chance. StomaphyX can prevent hunger and help improve your chance for long-term weight loss success.

The procedure uses the StomaphyX device, which allows doctors to perform the procedure without any external or internal incisions. The benefits of this procedure include:

  • No need for surgical incisions
  • Enables the surgeon to reduce the size of the stomach
  • Preserves future treatment options
  • Essentially no pain for the patient
  • Faster recovery than with open or laparoscopic procedures

Reasons for LAP-BAND® revision may include:

  • Band slippage/pouch dilatation
  • Obstruction of the stomach-band outlet
  • Esophageal dilatation or poor esophageal function
  • Leak or twist at the access port
  • Band erosion into the stomach
  • Port displacement, port site pain
  • A problem with the band or initial surgery

Reasons for revision of a gastric bypass or gastric sleeve may include:

  • Leaks
  • Bleeding
  • Hernias
  • Obstruction
  • Restriction
